Major and minor engineering works in, on and around water
Land & Water have successfully carried out a great number of water-oriented civil engineering contracts and are framework contractors for British Waterways and The Environment Agency, carrying out both major and minor engineering works in, on and around water. Using sustainable green engineering products and methods, the aim is to protect and enhance the environment wherever possible.
Land & Water Engineering Services include:
Piling: Land & Water offers a specialist piling service with operations conducted afloat or on land depending on site constraints.
Using their own, vibratory side-grip “Movax” piler or conventional crawler cranes and hammers, steel sheet piles, columns, beams, tubes and wooden piles can be driven into the ground. Where access and headroom is restricted or prohibited pontoon mounted heavy hiab piling equipment will be used.
Land & Water designed and constructed piled marine and waterways structures can be found throughout the UK, including:
Earthworks: For earthworks operations, lateral strategies are developed with specialist plant to provide simple, sustainable solutions.
For more than 30 years Land & Water have been adapting and modifying specialist plant to deliver earthworks projects. This is now complimented by state of the art DGPS excavator control systems, 3D ground modelling, waste classification along with testing and zoning by their highly specialised in-house environmental team.
The deeper, more inaccessible and wetter the excavation problem, the more determined Land & Water is to find a solution.
Innovations: Operations are fuelled by innovation – thinking in a lateral manner to identify, risks and opportunities.
Land & Water’s systems, people, legislative knowledge, IT, safety culture and sustained investment in green engineering solutions fosters innovation in all that they do.
Environment: As mankind develops a greater understanding of the planet, so we have learned to respect and restore the damage we have caused. Land & Water has developed a series of processes to develop systems that regulate and audit actions taken to both minimise the impact and maximise the environmental gains. These include electronic legislative updates and internal training courses for staff, development and patenting of highly specialist treatment processes for waste sludges, soils and aquatic vegetation, and a dedicated Regulator Liaison resource insuring appropriate permits and consents are in place.
Equipment: Developing bespoke and specialist equipment is a way of life for Land & Water, from the earliest long reach excavators, to specialist pontoons and marine craft, soft terrain vehicles, amphibious plant, specialist piling equipment and a multitude of specialist support equipment.
Coffer Dams: A design and construct, excavate, maintain and removal service is offered on any combination of water and dry land.
Land & Water offers turn-key solutions for a number of different types of Coffer Dams and temporary retaining structures.
Services include, detailed design, spoil testing, zoning and waste classification, as well as pile driving, support frame installation, excavation, de-watering and spoil removal.
Land & Water also design “unconventional” Coffer Dams, not simply relying on traditional driven techniques, but using sinking caisson designs (marine works), gravity retaining structures and limpit dams for sub-surface marine works including quay wall repairs, locks and sluices, etc.
Use of re-useable lock gate stop-plank gates negate the use of heavy timbers providing a safe working environment within drained locks, weirs, sluices and bridge holes.
Marina Construction: Over the past 25 years, Land & Water have designed and constructed more marinas than any other contractor in the UK.
The hallmarks of their designs are sympathetic waterside environments, blending the density of moorings and soft aesthetics with a sound commercial investment.
From an initial concept and feasibility to the final build-out process Land & Water offers a one-stop shop construction service.
All layouts and feasibility studies begin with a practical site appraisal, allowing value engineered solutions to be included from the start. Designs are underwritten by professional indemnity insurances and customers are provided with transparent costs and budget.
The specialist plant and machinery required to deliver a marina construction is owned and operated by The Group who also offer a full CDM safety audit process for projects where they act as Principal Contractor.
Hydropower: Land & Water’s understanding of marine based engineering and sensitive habitat management are ideal credentials as a supplier of infrastructure solutions for modern Hydropower projects.
With an unparalleled practical knowledge of the UK’s rivers and watercourses and an exemplary record with the Regulators, Land & Water’s service encompasses feasibility, planning, impact assessments, mitigation measures design and whole-scheme implementation; in essence, offering a “one-stop” service, fulfilling all of the activities listed below:
