Environmental restoration and rehabilitation

For over 20 years Land & Water has been associated with the restoration and rehabilitation of many of the UK’s Lakes, Canals, Rivers and Waterways.

Rivers and Canals:  During a long relationship with the waterways of the UK, systems, plant, and processes have been developed to ensure customers receive value for money and inspired solutions to their environmental problems.

Land & Water has a detailed understanding of the Safety and Environmental constraints of working in and on live watercourses.  To this end they have patented a number of specialist waste treatment processes and been instrumental in not only advising and implementing but the adoption of a number of pieces of important environmental legislation, often assisting customers and Regulators alike to understand their changing responsibilities.

Much of the specialist plant used has been designed in-house specifically to reduce the environmental impact of sensitive projects or to operate in difficult and often seemingly inaccessible terrains.  Land & Water is committed to training and developing their workforce to understand the environments and sensitivities of the habitats in which they work.

Successful restoration and enhancement projects include:

  • Project Aquarius – award winning restoration of Birmingham’s inner city canal infrastructure
  • Forth and Clyde Canal restoration- the Scottish trans-lowlands canal restoration project opened in 2000
  • The restoration of the Huddersfield, Rochdale and Kennet and Avon Canals
  • River Lambourne
  • River Kennet and Avon
Lakes and Pond Design:  Since foundation in 1976, Land & Water have restored, improved, enlarged and created over 1,000 lakes and pond schemes.  
Land and Water river bank restoration projectServices include client liaison and consultation, surveys and a detailed design service tailored to meet the needs of the site and complimentary to the landscape. The Group can help in the planning process and will undertake the Regulatory approval process if required.

Using specialist plant and knowledgeable staff, a pragmatic and practical scheme will be delivered.   Services include:

  • Selective clearance and scrub management
  • Weed cutting, clearance and management
  • Bulk excavations and landform creation
  • Lake and Pond dredging
  • Lake and Pond restoration including sediment recycling, refuse or disposal
  • Lake and Pond lining (using high quality HDPE or LDPE liners, Geo-synthetic clays (bentonite) or puddle-clay
  • Structures; including, inlets, outlets, overflows, headwalls, spillways and drain-down systems
  • Dam and Causeway repairs including leak detection and repair
  • Aquatic planting and revetment solutions
  • Jetties, landing stages, islands and Boat Houses
