The Bestmann Green Systems edge sod is another product grown and supplied by Terraqua Environmental Solutions.
The edge sod is a block of processed coconut husk fibres which have been hydraulically pressed into a unit of 1000mm x 300mm x 90mm thick and then sprayed with natural latex.
Planted with UK provenance plants, British Seeds harvested from British Rivers, the plants growing in edge sods are only released from our nursery when they are showing signs of quality root growth.
The Edge Sod is planted as a monoculture with 6 plants per sod.
Standard monocultures of Carex Acutiformis, Iris Pseudacorus and Phalaris arundinacea are available and specific made to order sods can be planted but will take 6 to 8 weeks to mature depending on the time of year. The edge sod is secured to the river or lake bank using steel ‘u’ bars or hoops.
These are 8mm dia mild steel bars which support the sod in its upright position and ensure a strong mechanical fixing to the bank until rooting is well established.Pre planted edge sods are ideal for areas where concealment is required.
Existing concrete or steel retaining systems that require concealing or ‘greening’ can be transformed by the introduction of the edge sod.
Its upright nature also ensures that it can be installed up against the structure, particularly useful in areas of high flow.
