Land & Water Plant has provided innovative lightweight floating pontoons to the Ministry of Defence to support the weight of Apache helicopter cab for safety tests.
The pontoons are comprised of small sections that bolt together avoiding the need for large plant such as cranes to install them. The testing of the Apache cabs took place in a pool where the only access was via a steep narrow staircase but the load capacity eventually available was more than 4 tonnes.
Land & Water is now adding a number of the modular pontoons to its hire fleet.
Director Richard Maclean, said, “The pontoons made a genuine difference to the speed at which this crucial research was able to be completed. The ease of assembly makes them extremely versatile in their application and we have also used them assembled as walkways, rafts, barges, pontoons. It is even possible to put outboard motors on them.” |
