| The North West Structures Alliance has used a combination of long-reach excavators and hydraulic soil nailing rigs to prevent track closures on embankment maintenance at Preston Brook in Cheshire. The 21 metre reach JCB 220 and 260's, hired from Land & Water Plant, were fitted with 1.5 tonne nailing rigs from Ritchies, powered by the excavators hydraulics. The 10 metre soil nails would conventionally have had to be installed from the track or trackside, requiring slowed or diverted trains. |
