Specialist plant contractor Land & Water is developing a lone worker system for operators near water that will trigger an alarm if they fall in or get into difficulties in the cab.
The system, based on satellite phone technology, will inflate a life jacket when the worker hits the water and will send a text message to three preset numbers. The upgreaded system will have a range of about a mile and allow the location of the worker to be pinpointed for rescue.
Land & Water is also developing a specialised operation providing maintenance of quarry lagoons, using its long-reach excavator fleet. It currently provides six-weekly maintenance visits to Foster Yeoman's Glensanda Quarry in the Hebrides.
Land & Water plant director Richard Maclean said, "We are interested in talking to quarry operators, because everyone has problems with lagoons and few people maintain them properly, often because they cannot reach the middle." |
