North West Structures Alliance (the Network Rail/Edmund Nuttall partnership) has used long-reach excavators to prevent the need for line closures during maintenance work on railway embankments at Preston Brook, near Runcorn.
Working from the top of the embankment, three of Land & Water Plant’s excavators with 21.5m long-reach booms were used for the job. Two machines, a JS220 and a JS260, were fitted with the customer’s own 1.5 tonne nailing rigs to carry out bank support on 700 metres of embankment.
The hydraulically-powered nailing rigs inserted 10 metre long soil nails into the banck – work that traditionally would have been carried out from either on or beside the tracks, causing slow running trains or diversions. |
