“I am delighted to support once again The Waterways Renaissance Awards and to help encourage best practice in waterway development and regeneration. These awards have honoured some of the most innovative, inspired and imaginative waterway regeneration schemes of the last three years. The Waterways Trust and BURA have shown great foresight in creating these awards and I would encourage those working in this field to get their entries in. Good luck to you all!”
The awards will be judged by an assessment panel of waterway, conservation and regeneration experts, chaired by Judith Grice OBE, Groundwork’s Regional Director for the East of England.
Judith Grice, Chairman of The Waterways Renaissance Awards 2006, said:
“I am very pleased to have been invited to chair The Waterways Renaissance Awards 2006. The awards are now well established and have proved very successful. This year we have introduced two new categories – Innovation & Strategy and Masterplanning, reflecting the crucial role they play in creating high quality, well-used activities and places. I would like to encourage everyone involved in a successful waterway regeneration or development to enter their schemes by 5 October. We have considered some astonishing projects in the past and are really looking forward to this year’s entries and seeing what is possible to achieve on the ground, often against all the odds.”
Entries in all categories must meet the following general criteria:
Be located on, or immediately adjacent to, a navigable inland waterway in the UK; Be innovative and inspiring, providing the catalyst for other projects or schemes; Meet the objectives of sustainable development: environmental, social and economic; Enhance the use and enjoyment of the waterway; Demonstrate active participation by an appropriate range of partners; Demonstrate a proven track record of success |
