Basket weaving at 20m is the best way to describe Jackson (Civil Engineering’s) bio-engineered river bank on the Rye in East Sussex. To prevent tidal erosion, a series of 3.6m long poles were inserted into the river bank and then hazel fagggots interwoven between the uprights. Traditionally this work would have been undertaken by a gang working at low-tide. However, the addition of an Engcon Tilt Rotator and grab is allowing both pole insertion and weaving to be carried out from the safety and comfort of the cab of one of Land & Water’s long reach excavators.
