Bio Engineering

Today’s environmental constraints mean that increasingly the traditional ‘Hard’ erosion control schemes are becoming replaced by bio-engineered solutions. Land & Water has worked closely with the leading bio engineering product designers and suppliers over the past ten years to perfect the use of bio engineering products.

Increasingly designers are facing complex erosion scenarios. Land & Water's experience in numerous engineering situations ensures that the optimum design and practicality of installation can be realised in a design and build operation.

Here ‘Fortrac’ reinforced grass is used to recreate the riverbank. Below the water is an ‘anti scour’ sheet pile footing to withstand the daily erosion and then a bio engineered solution designed to withstand the flood events using grass banking Hazel faggot deflectors constructed on the River Kennet Wiltshire.

Live Willow Spiling is an extremely effective solution to lake and riverbank stabilisation. Rapid root growth ensures almost immediate stabilisation of backfill. Effective for up to 1.0m of water, Willow Spiling is an entirely natural and bio engineered solution to erosion control.
