LLMO - Case Studies

Case Study 1

Newent Town
Council
5 acre lake

The past few years had seen the lake steadily decline in its wildlife and water quality. Last year the Environment Agency was called in due to
the distressed state of the fish within the lake, it was clearly identified that the lake was suffering from depleted oxygen levels owing to a large mass of algae.

Over the spring of 2003 the LLMO bacteria was added to the lake, and throughout one of the hottest summers of recent years, no algal looms
were seen, and more importantly, no stressed fish.

“We have been extremely impressed with Land & Water’s approach to our problem and combined with a successful and cost effective solution we are pleased to repeat our order in 2004.”
Roger Beard – Town Councillor

Case Study 2

Chalk Springs
Fisheries, Arundel
Four 1 acre lakes

Chalk Springs is a unique case in that each of its four lakes is fed by a natural spring that comes from the surrounding Sussex Downs. Ground
temperature rarely drops below 10șC and the water sustains a fairly consistent temperature all year.

This is the perfect temperature to promote algae growth. The traditional method to deal with algae and weed growth has been to cut and net it. This is a short-term solution and involves considerable loss of revenue from the lakes closure.

LLMO is dosed when algae starts appearing around the lake edge, and has been used over the last four years. Within this time Chalk Springs has not had to close a single one of its lakes for algae or weed treatment.
