Our Design Engineer Nick has been working on an exciting and innovative project ever since joining Land & Water in January.
After being brought on board to further enhance our technical capabilities by providing assistance and consultancy on a range of projects, Nick has found himself on site supporting the team carrying out infrastructure works at Teesport Ro-Ro.
On behalf of PD Ports, we are upgrading Teesport No.2 Ro-Ro, by demolishing and re-building the existing linkspan which will allow larger vessels to berth and strengthen the position of Teesport as the UK’s Northern Gateway for international trade.
Currently, Nick is responsible for quality assurance ensuring that all work is completed on time and as part of the brief specified. Currently, the team have just completed the installation of a steel combi wall constructed from tubular piles and sheet piles. The installation of the tubular piles included a drilled rock socket which had a depth of 22.5 metres.
When talking about the project, Nick said: “Teesport has been a great first project for me to get stuck in to, the variety of work combined with the need to think quickly to overcome challenges means that no day is ever the same.”
As we continue to build our presence in the North, our new regional hub in Newcastle upon Tyne is proving extremely popular with the team, creating exciting new opportunities to work on sustainable and one of a kind projects.
When we asked Nick why he wanted to join Land & Water he said, “I had been working alongside Land & Water for many years as part of a role with one of its sub-contract design consultants and I was always drawn to its values. I also really wanted to be more involved on site so when this position came available, I felt I would be the right fit.
“Sustainability is key at the moment and it’s important to lead the civil engineering sector on its pathway to carbon net zero. It is nice to be working for a company doing its part for our planet.”
