Previously British Waterways, The Canal & River Trust is a charity that was founded in 2012 to care for England and Wales’s 200-year-old waterways.

It it responsible for 2,000 miles of navigable canals and rivers, together with bridges, tunnels, aqueducts, docks and reservoirs, along with museums and archive collections.
Land & Water has worked alongside The Canal & River Trust (The Trust) for more than 20 years. We are the official contractor for their National Dredging Contract which means we are responsible for the delivery of their asset-delivery plan for all dredging, vegetation clearance and associated minor ancillary civils. We are also their contractor of choice for all moorings and marina development on behalf of their waterside team.
In 2016 we became the sole dredging contractors to The Canal & River Trust for a minimum of 10 years because of our collaborative approach and our long-term commitment to the improvement of Britain’s waterways. Find out more.
Canal & River trust and a number of volunteer organisations have been restoring the Montgomery Canal since 1969. This project was for the creation of a nature reserve to provide quality habitats adjacent to the canal restoration.
The project established a sequence of balancing ponds along the offside of the canal at Aston Locks. The new ponds linked to those existing at lock 1 and to the one adjacent to Lock 3.
Land & Water took the initial design ideas and with support from our key design partners, took the scheme to a deliverable, functional design. Watch a time-lapse of this exciting project here.
