Just 14% of the construction industry is female, and here at Land & Water we are making strides to ensure that our workforce improves gender equality standards.
International Women’s Day is significant at Land & Water as we are passionate about encouraging more women to #BreaktheBias, which is the theme for this year, and join the civil engineering and construction industries.
We are committed to creating a workplace which has an equal male / female balance and we are proud to have six amazing women as part of our senior management team.
As we continue to recruit for a number of positions, from Project Managers to Quality Surveyors, we believe that gender equality is essential for a business to thrive. It’s about generating awareness around the variety of roles in our sector, from managing projects and visiting sites to working in business development and finance alongside the possibility of career progression. We would love to see more women driving our machines one day and an improvement in the lack of female Operatives in our industry.
We are passionate about fulfilling the potential of every woman in our team, at every stage of their career. We believe that having a female led mentorship scheme or key female role models within a company can also inspire women to consider a career in the sector. This provides the young girl who is currently at school dreaming of her future career, the chance to picture herself as the next civil engineer.
We have some fantastic women on our team from our apprentice Lizzie, who has been with us for almost two years, to our Contracts Manager Lucy and Head of Estimating and Business Development Jayne.
Businesses and its employers need to play their part and recognise the importance and value of gender diversity so we can help reduce the stigma around the civil engineering and construction sectors being male dominated.
