MEET LAND & WATER’S AWARD WINNING APPRENTICE LIZZIE ASBURY

Our Apprentice Lizzie has been at Land & Water since 2020 and is making amazing progress in her career already.

Lizzie joined us straight after her A-levels as an alternative to university and wanted a vibrant and stimulating work environment in which she could build her confidence and gain new skills.

When talking about apprenticeships at Land & Water she says that "learning whilst being in a workplace gives you the most amazing life lessons and enables you to learn so much whilst pushing you out of your comfort zone."

Her highlights so far include gaining her dumper ticket and achieving her Level 2 RYA Power Boat certificate. Lizzie also won the ‘Best Newcomer’ Award at the 2021 Land & Water annual awards.

Having worked on a few high profile projects such as the fish pass at Holt Weir and Shakespeare Marina, Lizzie is now an integral part of our Blenheim Palace site. Some of her main responsibilities there include conducting geo readings and inputting data about the site's progress as well as keeping up to date with the drivers on a day-to-day basis. Lizzie knows the site like the back of her hand now and says that the best thing about it is that "there is real value in what we are doing. We are carrying out meaningful work restoring important landmarks and every day is different. Not to mention the amazing surroundings we get to work in."

As part of her apprenticeship at Land & Water it is important that Lizzie is encouraged to think about her next steps. For her this will include shadowing our Project Manager Charlie Oakes in preparation for a part time degree in Level 6 Civil Engineering alongside her day to day role, starting next year. This will upskill her even further and enable her to take on more technical responsibility. We can’t wait to see Lizzie grow in her role and continue making so many incredible achievements.

When Lizzie is not working hard on our projects she loves to spend time outside, appreciating nature and walking her dog as well as going to the gym.

From creating opportunities for young people in our industry, to implementing sustainable solutions leading us towards carbon net zero, we are proud to be leading the way when it comes to making positive change.
