MEET OUR ACCOUNT MANAGER DAN JACKSON WHO IS TRANSFORMING THE PLANT HIRE BUSINESS WITHIN LAND & WATER

Dan Jackson started his Land & Water journey in our Guilford head office 11 years ago. Since then he has relocated to the West Midlands in order to head up sales for our Plant Hire division and support our plant framework with the Environment Agency.

As Strategic Account Manager at Land & Water Plant Hire, Dan is focussed on client liaison, new business awareness, account management and nurturing his growing team. No day looks the same for Dan and he assures us that he still learns something new every day. His experience means he is in high demand when it comes to advice and queries.

We asked Dan what made him interested in a civil engineering career and he said "I have always had a mechanical interest, from repairing motorbikes in the shed with my Dad, to renting mini diggers to maintain the motocross jumps we used to ride on. Once I left school I completed a qualification in PC Repair and Build and then later, Steel Erecting before I found plant hire with Land & Water. Although what I had previously done wasn't directly related, it had great transferable skills that the Land & Water team helped me to nurture."

Dan has been a pivotal drive in the expansion of Land & Water Plant Hire. This has allowed for an increased focus on marketing and brand awareness. As part of his transition into a managerial position Dan has gone from being on site daily to having a more logistical office based role. He says, "I love the opportunity that this industry gives you to try out a variety of different kind of roles. This most recent change is a welcomed challenge and is proving to be very rewarding."

Dan has also been a major part of Land & Water Plant Hire's drive towards becoming carbon net zero. Under his supervision Land & Water has become the first company in the UK to invest in brand new Kobelco SK210 Hybrid 15m Long Reach Tracked Excavators as well as Hitachi ZX130-7 Super Long Reach Excavators. These machines are fitted with ECO gauges, Stage V compliant engines and, when hybrid, are compatible with HVO fuel. This makes them more efficient and more eco-friendly than alternative equipment. He says, "Being the first company in the UK to invest in this new machinery is extremely poignant. One of the best things about working within Land & Water is being able to offer customers bespoke specialist equipment that have eco considerations."

When we asked Dan for his advice for people looking to work in civil engineering and plant hire he told us that, "the best thing about this industry is that it is constantly evolving, from legality to large technology advancements, the current and planned UK infrastructure projects are really exciting and it is a great time to join. The key is to not be afraid to try anything out. Experience is invaluable."
