Infrastructure Projects

Major infrastructure projects always influence the environment.

We are often asked to deliver the more interesting parts of these high-profile projects because our specialist knowledge and equipment mean we can work in areas with access constraint or sensitive habitats where a strong environmental discipline is required.

HS2 is currently appraising river and canal crossings, and habitat translocation works.

Thames Tideway Tunnel

  • Delivering dredging and habitat-improvement works within the tidal Thames for all three sections of the 22km Thames Tideway Super-sewer in London
  • We are just commencing our third dredging contract for TTT (July 2017) at Chamber Wharf, close to Tower Bridge.

DP World

  • Supporting the joint venture main contractors at the new super-port (London Gateway) DP World in Essex
  • Our earliest involvement began two years before construction started, helping us to build mitigation habitats and assisting in the translocation of various species
  • Completed tidal recovery of over 130,000m3 of temporary rock armour, working around the clock and around the tide to recover the materials
  • During 2014, we dredged over 1,200,000m3 of sand and gravel to remove the temporary works platform and expose the new super-berthing pockets. Here we worked around the clock to maintain a tight dredging programme
DP World

Olympic Park

  • Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) from 2008 to 2012
  • We carried out dredging and restoration of the canals and waterways that criss-cross the park and the construction of wetlands along the River Lee
  • We provided marine pilings for the BMW show's case show rooms
  • Access and entrance structures over the water
  • Temporary moorings and habitat-creation works
  • Our relationship with the Queen Elizabeth Park continues, and in 2017 we are delivering further towpath improvements and habitat enhancements

The Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL)

  • Our work includes embankment stabilisation
  • Excavation of tunnel approach portals for the Thames Crossing
  • Excavation of over 320,000m3 of various materials to depths of up to 25m below ground level
  • Handling and placement of over 160,000m3 of tunnel/slurry arisings, site restoration and stabilisation

Battersea Power Station

  • Working with the developers on the waste-away by barge strategy for the excavated spoils including approvals and funding for the enabling works
  • Marine works for the coaling jetties on the Thames
  • The complex dredging and removal of sludge residues form the boiler turbine basements deep beneath the superstructure

Crossrail

  • Our Tier 4-compliant (low-emission) machines have worked throughout London on various Crossrail sites, undertaking deep-shaft excavation works and handling the tunnel's waste materials
